In honor of the 40th anniversary of National IV Nurse Day, our Director of Nursing penned a heart-felt thank you to all of our incredible infusion nurses.
IVX Health Team,
Today we celebrate national IV Nurse Day. And on behalf of the entire company, I want to say – rather, I want to scream from the rooftops – a bold and unwavering thank you to our incredible team of infusion nurses and nurse practitioners. In a company where patients are our #1 priority, it is up to you to not only provide safe, high-quality treatment, but to do so in a way where our patients feel truly known and cared for.
40 years.
I have to be honest – prior to my time at IVX, I was unaware of IV Nurse Day. But after brushing up on my 1980s U.S. Congressional legislative accomplishments, I came across the official proclamation from the House of Representatives from all the way back on October 1st, 1980. Maybe Andrew is old enough to remember it? I’ll spare you the boring political speak, but the key point is IV Nurse Day was established to honor and recognize our nation’s infusion nurse specialists and the great work you do – day in, day out. It’s a field with an illustrious history, often caring for extremely vulnerable patients in difficult circumstances – think HIV, pulmonary hypertension, cutting-edge oncology. You’re part of that tradition of caring.
The job of an infusion nurse – especially here at IVX Health – is multi-faceted. Sure, you are preparing and administering infused medications and upholding the highest of clinical standards. But you’re also educating our patients on the procedure itself and all that goes with it. You are calming the nerves of a newly diagnosed patient, showing compassion and empathy as you become a trusted guide in their story. You are remembering their preferences – do they want their IV site warmed? Do they prefer a blanket, or do they like to sit or recline? You learn about their kids’ soccer games and ask them about the Netflix show they watch every appointment. (You may even watch at home so you can keep up with them!)
Infusion therapy looks very different than it did 40 years ago, and IVX is the leading edge of that transition. But the constant has been the contribution that infusion nurses make on the physical and mental well-being of our patients.
We have an amazing team of infusion nurses here at IVX Health. I’m honored to work alongside each of you as we fulfill our mission to redefine the care experience for those with complex chronic conditions.
Thank you!
