Black Friday Shopping Strategies with Chronic Illness

Black Friday is practically a holiday in and of itself anymore. If you're wanting to join the crowds in getting some early holiday shopping done, use our strategies below to avoid overdoing it. No need to shop 'til you drop! Use our Black Friday shopping strategies to get what you need without causing a flareup!

#1: Make a Black Friday List

Whether or not you check it twice, go with a list. Check out Black Friday sales ahead of time so you know what you need to get. This way you can spend energy getting what you need instead of rushing aimlessly from deal to deal.

#2: Stick to a Schedule

It can be tempting to start early, go all day, and finish late, but be honest with yourself about what your body can handle.  If stores are doing sales between certain hours, prioritize the ones with items on your list. Planning to be out all day? Make sure to schedule breaks for rest, fuel and anything else you might need (bathrooms, medications, etc.).

#3: Be Prepared

Keep your flareup triggers in mind while you’re out shopping. Take any medications you might need with you. Stay hydrated. If you’re sensitive to cold, make sure you’ve got proper attire. Wear comfortable shoes made for walking, and don’t be afraid to use a scooter if you need one. In short, take care of yourself!

#4: Wait for Cyber Monday

If the thought of fighting Black Friday crowds stresses you out, just wait until Monday! Many online stores have great Cyber Monday sales the week after Thanksgiving. On top of that, plenty of stores offer Black Friday deals online as well as in store. Do your research, and feel free stay home, enjoy leftovers, and shop the web instead!
