How to Set and Achieve Effective Health Goals

If one of your resolutions for the new year is to improve your health, you're not alone.  According to Google's search results data, getting healthy and getting organized are the top two new year's resolutions for 2017.  And as it turns out, the two often go hand in hand.  Read on to learn how to set and achieve effective health goals in 2017 and beyond. Make Health Goals Measurable "Getting healthy" is a great idea, but it's not a measurable goal.  One of the best way to set achievable goals is to make them measurable.  For instance, part of "getting healthy" may include lowering your cholesterol levels, eating more vegetables, drinking more water, or being more active. Set Rules to Support Your Health Goals Once you've pinpointed your specific health goals, the road to achieving them means setting rules.  For example, if you want to drink more water, set a rule to drink 8 to 16 ounces of water first thing in the morning before you do anything else.  Want to get more sleep?  Set a bedtime and stick to it. Track Your Health Goals Once you know your rules, it should be easy to track your progress toward health goals.  You can record your data in a simple journal, a spreadsheet or an app, but just make sure whatever method you choose is one you'll use consistently. Stack Your Health Goals It can be tempting to take on all your health goals at one time, but that makes it easy to get overwhelmed and fall off the wagon.  Adopting one or two health goals to start with so you can really focus on turning them into habits is usually more effective.  It takes 28 days to create a habit, so it makes sense to stack your goals from month to month.  Health goals are more evolution over time than flipping a switch. Make Health Goals Measurable

“Getting healthy” is a great idea, but it’s not a measurable goal.  One of the best way to set achievable goals is to make them measurable.  For instance, part of “getting healthy” may include lowering your cholesterol levels, eating more vegetables, drinking more water, or being more active.

Track Your Health Goals
