Aralast NP Infusion Therapy

See why thousands of patients choose our centers as their preferred destination for ongoing care, including Aralast NP Infusion treatments.

Aralast NP is a biologic therapy that is indicated to treat:

  • adults with clinically evident emphysema due to severe hereditary deficiency of Alpha1-PI (alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency).

What Is Aralast NP?

Aralast NP is a prescription medication made from human Alpha1-Proteinase Inhibitor (Alpha1-PI) administered for patients in all IVX Health centers via IV infusion. Aralast NP is used to treat lung disease (emphysema) caused by severe Alpha1 antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency.

How Aralast NP Works

Aralast NP works by increasing the levels of the Alpha1 protein in the blood and lungs to help replace low or absent levels of the protein.

What Is Aralast NP Used For?

Doctors order Aralast NP to treat:

  • adults with clinically evident emphysema due to severe hereditary deficiency of Alpha1-PI (alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency).

Aralast NP Infusion Dosage and Administration

Patients receive Aralast NP intravenously. Treatment time for an Aralast NP infusion at a medical clinic like IVX Health usually lasts around 15 minutes.

Dosage and Frequency

Before receiving their first intravenous infusion of Aralast NP, the ordering physician determines the patient’s dose. This dose depends on the patient’s weight and severity of the condition for which they are receiving treatment.

Patients typically receive treatments once a week.

Administering Aralast NP via IV Infusion

  1. The nurse prepares the patient’s arm by using rubbing alcohol to sterilize the location that is being used to insert the IV needle.
  2. Following needle insertion, the IV line is held in place with tape.
  3. The nurse attaches the patient’s IV line to the line coming down from the bag of medication.

Aralast NP Infusion Side Effects

As with all medications, side effects are possible.

The most common side effects of Aralast NP are:

  • Headache
  • Muscle and/or bone pain
  • Infusion site bruising
  • Upset stomach
  • Runny nose

There is also a risk of severe allergic reactions from using Aralast NP.

During or following treatment, patients should let their healthcare provider know if they are experiencing any serious and/or persistent side effects.

How To Prepare for an Aralast NP Infusion

It is essential that patients inform their physician if they currently have, or have had:

  • IgA deficiency with antibodies to IgA due to the risk of severe allergic reaction

Before treatment, patients should get a good night’s sleep. In addition, they need to drink an adequate amount of fluid and eat a meal before their Aralast NP IV infusion treatment at IVX Health.
